BMW & FC Bayern with
immersive instruments
Concept
FC Bayern Munich Basketball’s 2023/24 season kicked off with a major new sponsorship with BMW. In collaboration with AMU Architekten, MONOMANGO’s in-house interactive department immersive instruments produced a brand activation space in Munich’s historic 1972 Olympic basketball stadium.
We took a presenter box and produced three interconnected installations: an AR photobooth called “Baller’s Box”, a FC Bayern-themed BMW car configurator and an immersive media wall comprising of multilayered screens.
Brand Activation Space
The brand activation space's flooring design is based on a basketball court and extends from the presenter box out into the corridor. This guides fans into the photobooth – the installation’s first touchpoint – when on their way to the stadium.
We also designed a custom CNC-machined 3D corian signage which invites Basketball fans to engage with the BMW brand.
Photobooth
For this spatial installation, we customized the immersive instruments infinity terminal – an interactive touchscreen seemingly suspended in an infinite space of coloured, purpose-programmable lights.
Here, fans can take a selfie with their favourite FC Bayern Basketball players and view the results either on the large media wall consisting of ten 4K screens, or take the momento with them on their phone by scanning a QR code on the kiosk’s screen.
<<show the steps>>
- press start
- Select up to 5 of your favorite players
- Camera turns on
- the players walk in
- Pose for the camera
- Countdown
- picture is taken
- Access your picture with a QR code and download it to your device
- Choose whether to display it on the media wall
To prepare the photobooth's AR content, we filmed the Basketball players in collaboration with Rapid Peaks and prototyped the spatial setup in-house. We then customized the infinity mirror terminal with a camera, lighting extension and custom software.
Car configurator
The spatial concept’s centrepiece is a custom variation of the immersive instruments Commune S interactive table which features a 55 inch touchscreen and object detection.
The bespoke car configurator with a custom UI enables visitors to configure their own virtual BMW with different paint colours, wheels, stickers and Basketball-themed custom environments.
Moreover, the car can be placed in one of four basketball inspired environments. In the final step, the users can choose their four favourite FCBB players. Once finished, they get presented with a custom, live rendered, highlight reel of their configured car and the players enter the scene at the end.
Media wall
The media wall features a collage of 10 x 4k screens connected to one media server and controlled via an online content management system. It displays the visual output from the photobooth and car configurator along with campaign images for BMW and FCBB.
Every few minutes, a custom animation appears across all screens, to form an integrated whole of the entire room.
